19:5 A false witness. This warning is repeated, with one important modification in Proverbs 19:9. There are several other warnings in Proverbs against bearing false witness (Proverbs 6:19; 12:17; 14:5; 21:28; 25:18). The ninth commandment deals with this crime, and the final great warning against it is in Revelation 21:27 and 22:15. Jesus Christ is “the truth” and God’s “Word is truth” (John 14:6; 17:17), so God hates “a false witness that speaketh lies” (Proverbs 6:16,19).
